I was privileged enough to live very close to one of the main streets next to the canal that was closed down during COVID to allow more people to be able to walk, bike, get outside while the restrictions were being enforced. Though there is a permanent bike path, the city closing the entire road was a great experience as people could really get out and be socially distanced while still carrying a conversation or just generally appropriately distanced from other people. Though the city still does this on Sundays and calls it “bike days” during COVID they pretty much had it closed the entire time. The positive impact was that it made it so much easier to get outside and moving, enjoying fresh air, nature and really helped my mental health when we went thorugh the transition of working from home and having to isolate.
